الاكثار من اكل الطماطم المطهوة بكاملها بالبذور والقشرة سواء المسلوقة او المشوية يلعب دورا مهما جدا في حماية الرجال من الاصابة بسرطان البروتستاتا. وذلك لما تحتويه ثمار الطماطم من مواد مضادة للسرطان وعلي رأسها مادة الليكوبين وأشار باحثون ايطاليون, في معهد علوم الشيخوخة في جامعة' كييتي', وسط ايطاليا, إلي أن أكل الطماطم المطبوخة بأكملها, مع بذورها وقشرتها, لها فاعلية كبري, خاصة ان الطماطم بها اكثر من مادة غذائية مفيدة جدا للوقاية من السرطان ونصحت الدراسة بتناول الطماطم في شكلها الاولي دون تقطيع والافضل ان تكون مطبوخة وقالت الدراسة ان الفئران المصابة بالسرطان التي تناولت ثمارالطماطم عاشت اطول وكان تطور نمو سرطان البروتستاتا لديها أبطأ يذكر ان سرطان البروستاتا يعد الأكثر انتشارا لدي الرجال, بعد سرطان الرئة.
